Alfred Marshall opened the first Marshalls store in 1956. He got together a group of creative business owners and told them he had an idea for a store that would sell name-brand clothes for less. Right after this company was started, the idea turned out to be very successful. Marshalls became the largest off-price store chain in the United States 10 years after the first store opened.
