Van Cleef & Arpels’ history is a fairytale that started in 1896 with the efforts of Estelle Arpels (and Alfred Van Cleef).
The family was involved in the creation of Van Cleef & Arpels. It was a family affair that combined passion, creativity, and innovation.
Both were passionate about jewelry and both were already deeply involved in the design. Estelle was the daughter of a trader of precious stones, while Alfred was from an artisan’s family.
The brand opened its first shop in Paris on Place Vendome, a prestigious square. Customers were especially drawn to the leather watches, which saw instant success.
