About Husqvarna Svartpilen 701
The Husqvarna Svartpilen 701, also known as the “Black Arrow,” combines futuristic design and flat-track inspiration.
Unlike the café-style Vitpilen, this standard street bike has upright, pulled-back bars, Pirelli MT 60 tyres, and a flat-track-style number plate.
Besides, it has the same 673cc single engine, WP Apex suspension, and Brembo brakes. It also has the same steel tubular trellis frame.
In our 2019 first ride review, we said that because of all these things, it is the best of the Swedish arrows.

Arrow Sharp
The Svartpilen has a higher handlebar position and more suspension travel than the 2018 Vitpilen (White Arrow) cafe racer. 2020 adds a matte-bronze appearance with silver highlights and black components.
Only the chrome 701 tank emblems and satin wheel spokes are glossy.
It has a flared fuel tank and a flat-tracker appearance. The LED headlamp has a plastic nacelle resembling a racer’s number plate, and a faux number plate on the right side smooths the transition to the upswept muffler.
Tasteful! The flat-track idea extends to the seat’s three colours/textures and neoprene-like pillion area with a ducktail. A satellite-style rear fender and LED taillight create a sleek derriere.
Super Thumper
Unless you’ve ridden KTM’s discontinued 690 Duke, the ‘Pilen’s 693cc single-cylinder engine will surprise you.
This isn’t a lethargic thumper; it’s a passionate partner for wheeling out corners or busting the tonne on a backroad.
At 75 horsepower, it has the most power of any single-cylinder street bike engine.
When you put together this fast engine and the lightest frame for a bike under 600cc, you get a sharp razor that can easily cut through curves.
It’s a one-of-a-kind, capable backroad scratcher that two-wheeled vehicles must leave behind. The single Brembo brake on the front wheel makes it easy to steer without grabbing.
Dual discs would add weight, expense, and steering effort for racers alone.WP Apex components have good suspension motion.
The greatest part is the front, with its 43mm inverted fork and finger-tunable damping controls on each leg.
The linkage-assisted shock offers preload and rebound but not compression settings. It sometimes felt harsh for a 6″ damper.
Mixed finishes
The Svart’s 32.9-inch seat is light. Thin-cushioned dirt-tracker saddle. The polished seat is complete. Magura hand levers are adjustable in microscopic increments, and both foot levers have movable nubs.
Svartpilen logos are on the aluminium triple-clamps.Switchgear and other inexpensive parts impair the quality of these items.
LCD instrument panels are cheaper than thin film transistor panels on similar-priced bikes. $6,200 KTM 390 features TFT.
The gauge panel is too small (barely 2 inches) to see rapidly or by weak eyes while having a gear-position indication and a trip computer. Comparatively, the gauges and switches are cheap.
Enthusiastic riding forgives faults. Svartpilen is fun in cities and on winding roads. At any speed, the enormous one-lunged motor growls.
Up/down quick shifters simplify clutchless downshifts. The APTC slipper clutch has a narrow friction zone, little pull, and a compact hydraulic master cylinder. Traction control can be disengaged (no IMU).
Good Vibrations
Big single-cylinder engines vibrate. In this scenario, two counterbalancers minimise turbulent vibes. Vibes are around but are pretty decent.
Mirror chatter blurs rearview images (is that the CHP?). One-cylinder engines are more harmonious than multis. But laughter is music to everyone’s ears, and when riding a specific motorcycle brings joy, we know we have a winner.
The Svartpilen 701 exudes the freedom and excitement that lured us to motorcycling.

It is built into the minimalist tail of the bike and floats above the rear wheel. This makes riding the SVARTPILEN 701 a unique experience.
Lights
SVARTPILEN 701’s quality LED headlamp is unmistakable. It’s integrated with the front panel’s number board look, another flat track detail.
The SVARTPILEN 701’s daytime running light makes it visible in all conditions. The slim bodywork, swingarm-mounted licence plate, and turn signals give the rear end a clean, uninterrupted look.
